33. POSTCARD FROM T. E. LAWRENCE TO MADAME CHAIGNON

Granville, 31 August 1908

At the end of the 1908 tour Lawrence had planned to stay for a time with the Chaignon family at Dinard. On 31 August, however, he sent them this postcard warning them that his plans had changed: 'Granville 31/8/08. I got a telegram to Falaise yesterday saying that my brother "Will" would meet me in Granville tomorrow to ride to St. Michel and St. Malo. I do not of course know how long we shall be, or how much of Brittany we are to see. I am afraid however that now it will be impossible for me to stay with you as I had hoped: May we come to dinner? both of us? Will write again if we delay at St. Michel. E. L.'
