16. T. E. LAWRENCE WITH MEMBERS OF THE KERRY FAMILY, OXFORD
By an unknown photographer (c. 1900)
The Kerry family were friends of the Lawrences at Oxford, and their son Arthur was a
year younger than Lawrence. This photograph includes (front row left to right): Arthur H.
G Kerry (b.1889), his younger brother Harold, and Lawrence. At the right in the back row
is A. F. Kerry, Arthur's father, who taught at the City of Oxford High School. The
lady at the right end of the middle row is probably A.F. Kerry's wife with their
youngest son Godfrey in her lap. When Lawrence revisited France in 1906 for the first time
since his infancy, the Kerrys accompanied him on the voyage out from Southampton.

John Kerry
Provenance: By descent
Additional note, 1998:
A description of Thomas Lawrence that I had not seen when the above was
written suggests that he may be shown at the extreme left of the front row in this
photograph. The woman standing second from the left of the back row may be Sarah Lawrence.
