13.  2 POLSTEAD ROAD, OXFORD

Unknown photographer*

The Lawrences moved from Langley Lodge to this house in north Oxford in the summer of 1896, so that their children could receive a good education at a modest cost. That autumn Bob and Ned were enrolled at the City of Oxford High School for Boys.

2 Polstead Road, a semi-detached redbrick house built about six years previously, was to remain the family home until after the First World War.

*Replaces a monochrome photograph by Michael R. Dudley in the printed catalogue.
