Lawrence and the 'Biscuit'

The Biscuit was a Biscayne Baby speedboat given to Lawrence and Sydney Smith by Major Colin Cooper at the Schneider Cup Trophy races in 1929. The engine was completely overhauled at RAF Cattewater during the winter of 1929-30 and afterwards Lawrence spent much of his leisure time using the boat to explore the coast of South Devon, often with Clare Sydney Smith. It was their experience with the Biscuit that inspired Lawrence and Sydney Smith in their attempts to improve the RAF fleet.
