Lawrence at Hornsea, 1935 Ref: 4028
Lawrence met Flight Lieutenant Reginald Sims at Bridlington in November 1934. They became friends and Lawrence spent many weekends at the Sims' cottage in Hornsea. It was there, in February 1935, that this series of portraits was taken. Sims later wrote: 'His face was roughened and red, or as he referred to it, sandblasted, but although we knew he was forty-five or so, the vivid impression he gave us was one of eternal youth, and very beautiful youth at that.'
