Section II: 1914-1918 The large-format Castle Hill Press edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom: the Complete 1922 Text (1997) included a volume of illustrations. This contained the portraits that Lawrence commissioned to illustrate Seven Pillars, printed in colour for the first time since the 1926 subscribers' edition. It also provided an opportunity to publish a selection of war photographs in a larger format than ever before. These are the photographs included in the gallery-tour which starts here. There are many more photographs in the collection formed by Lawrence, which included not only his own photographs but also those taken by other British officers. His entire collection can now be seen in the Photographic Department at the Imperial War Museum, London, which will supply copy-prints. Almost all the photographs in this section come from the IWM collection. We plan to add more war photographs to the reference archive. These will be accessible from the thumbnail catalogue, but this representative gallery-tour will remain unchanged.
